NICE TOY BOX May 14, 2008 J. Rawlins (US Virgin Islands) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the price, it's a nice toy box. Good size and I love the safety close feature. I'm mother of 2 year old twin girls and they love storing their toys in it. My 7 year old son loves his as well. Holds quite a bit and great as extra seating.
Great for the price! May 5, 2008 Slushy Spark (California) It was very difficult for me to find a plain white toy box under $100, but my search has paid off. This might not be a very "sturdy" product as some reviewers noted, but it's sturdy enough for our energetic toddler (at least so far) and the lid design is safe for little fingers - we had the box for a few months now and, although our daughter is constantly opening and closing the box while holding on to the sides, she's never once got her fingers caught or banged her head with the lid while closing it. I don't know if the safety "break" on the lever will withstand prolonged use, but at this price, even if it lasted a year it would be worth it, and then it would work great as a storage box even in an adult bedroom because of the simple design and color. The assembly was quite simple too although the instructions weren't great.
Pressboard, not "sturdy wood" February 11, 2008 Dawn K (Oregon, WI USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The design of this box is nice, and the finish seems good. However, I find the description inaccurate. It is not "sturdy wood" which implies it is solid wood. In fact, it is pressboard. My husband put it together in about 30 min. with "help" from our 5 yr. old. He thinks the center-mounted hinge will last a year perhaps. The lid cannot be opened perpendicular to the box, only to about a 60 degree angle. It likely will be overextended causing the screw to strip out of the pressboard lid. The other problem was the smell. We had to put it out in the garage to air out since the paint/finish smell was so strong we didn't want it in our daughter's room. We're seriously considering returning it, but it means paying shipping on other items we ordered at the same time.
Toy box January 23, 2008 J. Pruitt I definately recommend this toy box. It was easy to assemble, has all the safety features that I wanted for my child and has a nice appearance. I plan to use this for my daughter as a toy box and later as a hope chest.
Nice price, however.... January 21, 2008 ojh333 (USA) The price was great for this toy box, and it is a nice size with a nice finish, but it is still cheaply made. The holes in the sides (for screwing in the stabilizing pegs) contain some little plastic piece which comes loose and rotates, preventing you from tightening the pegs properly. The most disappointing thing with this toy box was the hinge mechanism....after one day of use by a 3-yr old, the hinge bent backward and punched a hole in the underside of the lid when a toy interfered with closing all the way. Despite these problems we were still able to assemble it solidly and it is usable, but beware that it may not be perfect for very long.
