Charmless and dull, this adaptation of the Broadway hit stars Aileen Quinn as the depression-era moppet, Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks, Carol Burnett as the cruel headmistress at an orphanage, and Tim Curry as a villain. The film never gets its legs, and there is no sense of setting; it's almost as if the whole thing is happening in a void. John Huston nominally directed--no doubt to make money between his smaller, cheaper masterpieces--but one would have thought he would invest something of himself in here. --Tom Keogh

My daughter, age 18, screemed when she pulled this out of her xmas stocking. It was her favorite xmas gift!!!! She had one years ago, loaned it to a friend, and never got it back, so it was like finding a lost treasure.

Annie is the last of the good old fashioned musicals. Carol Burnett, Albert Finney and little Aileen Quinn turn in solid performances, the soundtrack is lively, and this particular dvd version is the only way to view the film, in anamorphic widscreen 2:35:1 ratio. There may not be any extras and only dolby surround 2.0 but the anniversary edition in full frame and 5.1 dts certain lyrics are missing, and its only full frame. The product came fast and in excellent condition.

Did the reviewer who wrote that this film is 'charmless' see the movie? It is a really great film, solid acting and a gorgeous voice from the little girl playing Annie. Needless to say Carol Burnett is outstanding and hilarious, and her duet with Daddy Warbucks is just great.
