1 out of 5 stars Badly designed, impossible to adjust   November 19, 2008
ccarnation (WI)
I need to preface this by saying that I do not know that this is the exact model of Evenflo carseat that we have. However, I strongly recommend against buying any Evenflo carseat with these kinds of strap adjustments! Going anywhere is stressful, knowing that we will have to face trying to get our daughter in and out of this thing--sounds extreme, but true.

The straps lock up and are impossible to adjust properly, especially at this time of year when our 14 month old daughter needs a winter coat on some days and not on others. As a previous poster said, they also twist and get stuck, though this may be true of any seat. Having the adjustments on the bottom of both sides of the front of the seat is bad design: they are especially difficult to turn when the seat is in the rear-facing position and up against the seat of the car; you can't see over the seat and your baby to adjust the knob furthest away from you--didn't the people who designed this thing actually put it into a car? Britax does a much better job of having a single button in the front to press--it's very easy to reach and adjust and a much better, smarter design overall.

The scary thing is is that it is so difficult getting our daughter strapped in that I seriously wonder whether she is truly secure and safe. When we are able to, we will be purchasing another Britax carseat despite the extra cost. We actually choose to use the car with the Britax carseat in it more often than the car with the Evenflo seat for the sole reason that it is easier to deal with getting our daughter in and out (and likely safer, as a result)!

4 out of 5 stars Nice seat   March 10, 2008

I just purchased this seat for my 15 month old because of the high ratings from Consumer Reports and it appeared to be very well padded for comfort. The seat was pretty easy to install. I did read some of the other reviews and you don't have to unscrew the back in order to adjust the height of the straps, you just lift the cloth seat cover and adjust the straps in the front, pretty simple. The only thing that I'm not too thrilled about is the release mechanism that you use to loosen the straps when getting the child out of the seat. Sometimes it works just fine, other times it seems to stick a bit, hopefully this won't be a major problem the longer we use the seat. All in all I think it's a very nice seat and it's one of the safest.

3 out of 5 stars Owned this seat for a year   March 6, 2008

I've owned this seat for a year and bought it for its safety rating and looks. Unlike other reviewers, I found the straps easy to adjust.

Its one major design flaw is that the seat cover is extremely difficult to remove, should you need to put it through the laundry. It requires you to unscrew 6 screws from the back panel, in order to access and disassemble the shoulder straps so you can then thread them through the cover. This is no fun when you have a toddler who regularly suffers from car sickness.

My wife has a Britax Marathon - I wish I'd got one for my car.

5 out of 5 stars Buying a new one!   February 7, 2008

We have had the older version of this car seat for over 2 years. Have been nothing but pleased. As for the strap adjustment requiring a screwdriver, not so, just move the cover squeeze the tabs and slide them up and down (this is for the old version). The new one you don't even have to do that. We are replacing our older ones because the new version will hold our tall toddler for much longer. Also, this car seat protected our son when we were hit by a semi. Totaled the car but he came out without a scratch.

3 out of 5 stars Difficult to Adjust   January 23, 2008

We have two of these. One for our car and one for the caregiver. The seat was fine until we had to start adjusting it as our daughter (now 2.5) grew. Now it seems like the release locks up sometimes and the straps won't loosen. Adjusting the seat overall is just more difficult than it should be. The seat has been fine otherwise. We bought it because of the ratings on Consumer Reports, but I wouldn't buy it again.
