Product Description
New parents are hipper, more educated, and more sophisticated than ever, but they're also highly competitive--a lethal combination when turbocharged by the anxieties of raising a baby. And for many couples, it's not just any baby, but the perfect baby. These excessively motivated parents will not sabotage Junior's future by denying him Mandarin lessons, a nursery chandelier (just like the one Gwyneth's kids enjoy), or advanced infant yoga. A hilarious, highly visual satire of childrearing manuals, The Perfect Baby Handbook provides much-needed comic relief from the pressures of modern parenting, and gives comfort to moms and dads who can say with a sigh of relief, At least, we're not this bad.

A Genuinely Funny Book May 15, 2009 Esther Skene (Alberta, Canada) This book is genuinely funny. The author has a keen sense of the absurd and richly mines the vagaries of contemporary child-raising. The book approaches babyhood thematically, starting with how parents should prepare for the arrival of their perfect child, and continues on to competitive breast feeding, social-economically appropriate strollers, educational toys and foreign-language nannies. The earnest tone of the recommendations is so letter-perfect (see, for example, the section on
choosing baby names) that I suspect that were the book not displayed in the "Humour" section, certain overwrought parents might well take the author's more seditious advice to heart. One needn't be a parent to
enjoy "The Perfect Baby Handbook". It will appeal to any reader who knows parents with children and the numerous laugh-out-loud passages make it well worth the cover price.
If you don't buy this, your baby will be stupid May 12, 2009 marjorie ingall 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Dale Hrabi is one of the funniest former babies ever. Though imperfect himself, he has penned a hilarious, truthful, perfect gift for the expectant or annoying parent. This brilliant parody of parenting books will help you laugh at OTHER PARENTS' mishegas, whether you're semi-self-aware about your own private-school-driven child-rearing competitiveness or whether you're self-congratulatory in your homeschooling and allow Phoenix and Amon-Ra to play only with sustainable hardwood marionettes they self-carve. Seriously, I could look at this book's baby name loser/winner matrix chart for hours (I'm slow) and laugh and laugh and laugh. (Girl loser names include Feebee, Wadine, and Poofia; Boy loser names include Testosteronald and Fudd; Girl winner names include Conquistadora and Elizabetter; boy winner names include Exacliburt and Overlord. Of course, gender-neutral winner and loser names are there too.) This book is really, really, really funny.
The perfect book for perfect parents May 7, 2009 Mary Elizabeth Williams (New York) Worried that even as cells are dividing in your womb right now, your little zygote may be less than gifted and talented? Fretting because your baby has actually already been born, and is not associating with the right people to get on the Ivy League path?
Fear not, devoted moms and dads, Dale Hrabi's guide will get your baby beyond being a mere eight pound meatloaf of drool and turn him or her into the superstar of the playgroup.
With helpful tips on how to give your heir an appropriate name (Messiah has a nice ring to it), plan a birthday party destined to the social event of the year, or design a daily schedule guaranteed to give your baby the competitive edge against all those other social climbing infants in your circle, Perfect Baby is a must for fast track babies and their high powered parents. Read it or you kid will never spit up lunch in this town again.
Great Advice & Great Laughs May 4, 2009 Sarah Kelleher Do you want a great laugh? Then look no further. And the great parenting advice-a wonderful added bonus!
This book will tell you everything you ever needed to know about children, and maybe even some tidbits that you never even imagined!
This colorful how-to manual comes complete with a wide array of beautifully drawn cartoons.
Personally, my favorite part is the chapter on "perfecting baby`s self-esteem." But what am I saying, from cover to cover the entire book is a true masterpiece.
Humor He Wrote April 29, 2009 ivymama 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If there's one thing I need in my arsenal as a mama-to-two, it would be laughter (and comic relief) which Dale Hrabi delivers so perfectly. Witty, clever, funny - made even funnier by the (frightening) fact that underneath it all, there's a teeny, tiny grain of truth to the content (aren't we all striving for perfection?).
all in, a wonderful commentary on competitive child-raising and a must-read for all parents, because don't we all need to laugh a little, even if it is at ourselves.
