Amazon.com Review The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'll love you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels. (Ages 4 to 8) --Richard Farr
Product Description A young woman holds her newborn son and looks at him lovingly. Softly she sings to him "I'll love you forever, /I'll like you for always/ As long as I'm living/my baby you'll be".This is the story of how that little boy goes through the stages of childhood and becomes a man.

Is this meant for children or overly sappy adults? August 30, 2010 Illustra The little boy is throwing toilet paper around and flushing his mother's watch down the toilet. The teenager seems ignorant and tracks mud throughout the house.
I'm sorry, these are not suggestions I want to give to my child. The sentiment of loving the child forever no matter what is cute, but it's creepy the way the mother goes about expressing her love for her child.
And the end of the book? Well, I know reality is good to teach and we'll all die someday, but the implications of the mother dying after being too sick to talk/sing are very dramatic take a potentially sentimental story to a very sad level. I recieved this book as a gift and it is being donated to goodwill. Perhaps someone else will find the value in it.
LOVE IT!!! August 28, 2010 Rachael Eldred (MENOMONIE, WI, US) This book is so touching, it made me cry. It also made my sister weep. I was recently blessed with my first child who is also my first son. I would recommend this book to any mother with any number of children. It's very sweet and simple.
Sweet depending on how you look at it August 27, 2010 A. quintero (usa) Ok, so I read all the reviews mixed..My 4yr old loves it, it's basically a story explaining that no matter how old your child gets no matter what he does or where he is, you will always love him, she sings this sweet song to him when he's a baby, 2yrs old, 9 and teen i tbelieve(my son memorized it already). however, what is a little odd is how when he moves away (grown man), she drives to his house, while he's asleep and cradles him (as she did all the previous times) and sings the same song..then once she's old/sick she calls him to tell him this(old/sick) and to he'd better come to see her(a little Marie from "Raymond"-the parts i dont like from the book), then he sings the song to her...then, the next page shows him with his own new baby and the man now sings the same song to him/her. So, very sweet ending..son doesn't soak in the whole oddity of the old/sick woman(i also downplayed it like "his mom was just a little sick so he went to see her and take care of her like she did him bec. he loves his mom just like his mom will always love him and i will always love you no matter how old you are." He's asked me to read it the last 3 nights. So, just depends how you analyze it and read to your child.
I love this book August 23, 2010 V. Nguyen (California) People who think this book is "creepy" are thinking about it too hard. Yes, in REAL LIFE, a mother driving to her son's house and climbing up a ladder and through his window is stalker-ish. But this is a CHILDREN's book and it's supposed to be slightly exaggerated and silly. Over the top? maybe... but there's a reason for it. It's exaggerated so even young children can understand it. If anything, it's funny, not creepy.
Anyway, I remember reading this book when I was younger and loving it. I read it again today and I cried. It's a great book. (:
FABULOUS August 16, 2010 J. Miller (Independence, KY) My friend's daughter had a baby shower, and everyone was to bring a book with a special message. It is the best book!
