I can't use anything else on my son. Apparently his bottom is very sensitive. We never had diaper rash issues until he was about 18 months old. He spent a weekend with Gram and drank a lot of apple cider which got things rolling in a very bad way. I noticed some redness in his diaper area and started applying the Balmex that I had. By the end of the day it was much worse, so I bought some Desitin and applied that liberally to the now VERY red and irritated area. Overnight things got out of control. The redness spread completely throughout the area his diaper touched and the area where the elastic touched was raw skin. This was horrible. He had to go without anything from his waist down as much as possible which was difficult to do as it was February in New England. By the end of the second day he actually had open sores that were bleeding. I called my pediatrician back home and was told to go out and get Dr. Smith's. No stores in the area had it or had even heard of it. I was beside myself by this point. When we got home the third day I got a sample of it from my pediatrician and tried it out. Within hours the redness had faded noticeably and my little guy was clearly feeling better. By the next day the open sores were well on their way to healing and life was manageable again. I will NEVER be without several tubes of this. I stash them everywhere. At the first sign of redness I'm on it with Dr. Smith's. I have thrown everything else away. Thankfully we have never had to endure another bleeding diaper rash. I can't imagine why more people don't know about this stuff. It was the ONLY thing that worked for us.
