Product Description
Use your hip, spare your back! Moms and dads are always on the go, and sometimes it's just more convenient to leave the stroller behind. Our Playtex Hip Hammock Child Carrier was designed for babies weighing 15-35 pounds, when front carriers might become uncomfortable. The Hip Hammock carrier allows your baby to sit naturally and comfortably on the hip, alleviating stress and strain on your back and freeing up hands for other things. Machine washable and made of soft materials for your child's comfort.

Preferable to a stroller in crowded public areas, this child carrier holds baby right next to a parent at a comfortable level for viewing her surroundings. Unlike many other carriers, this one balances baby on one hip instead of directly in front of the body. The benefits are that it is easier to walk or do household tasks without baby's legs limiting Mom's motion or her body blocking Mom's reach. In addition, the side-carrying design is much easier on the back. The Hip Hammock can be converted to rest on either hip—and rotating sides is recommended to avoid placing too much stress on one side. The carrier adjusts to fit Mom or Dad by cinching the waist strap and padded shoulder strap, which can easily be done with one hand, and closing the sturdy buckles. Baby faces inward and rests comfortably against the soft Microfleece lining. A wide leg area gives baby's legs decent freedom of movement and a back rest provides additional upper body support for baby or folds down and out of the way. The Hip Hammock features a toy hook on the shoulder strap that holds a pacifier or teething toy and a key chain that dangles from the waist strap to conveniently keep track of keys. This carrier has a durable quilted exterior fabric that holds up through several children and rolls up compactly for travel. The Hip Hammock is designed for older babies that weigh between 15 and 35 pounds. --Cristina Vaamonde

5 out of 5 stars Love the pouch   March 14, 2008

We used the hip hammock for our daughter from about 10 months until 19 months, and it has been a great experience for all of us, Mom, Dad and Baby. She is just now getting too big for it at 33" tall and 28 pounds. I find that I hit her legs with mine as I try to walk, and I get the feeling she is a little uncomfortable being squeezed in. Up until now it was so nice to have an extra hand free when you needed it. She was always very calm in the pouch, not fidgeting like other times when I carry her or in the cart or stroller. The best part was feeling so close to her when we were out and about. I didn't have to worry about her in a cart or stroller while grocery shopping, she was right there with me.

I also noticed that people seemed to go out of their way to help me (hold the door, get an out-of-reach item at the store) while she was in the pack. Plus, lots of smiles from the older folk!

This is great for whenever but especially when your baby is sick and wants to be on you every second of the day or when your shopping and baby gets fussy.

1 out of 5 stars not worth the time or hassle   December 23, 2007

my child is only 20 lbs and it doesn't save your back. It is cubersome to put on and remove. My daughter screams at the sight of it. My suggestion is to get an umbrella stroller or just carry them.

4 out of 5 stars Great Product! Easy to use.   December 15, 2007

This is a terrific -- much easier to use and more comfortable than the front carriers. Only complaint is if you wear the shoulder strap as they show in the picture, when you raise that arm the strap shifts up closer to your neck, so it's just easier to leave it there.

5 out of 5 stars So glad I found this carrier   August 31, 2007

My almost 10-month old daughter loves to be carried, but as she's gotten bigger, carrying her has gotten a bit more difficult. When she was little, she loved the Snugli, but now hates it (too confining, I guess). I tried her out in a sling, but she hated that too. Then I remembered the Hip Hammock...

I've had this for less than a week but it's come in quite handy several times already. Once you get the hang of it and get the straps adjusted to your preference, it's really easy to use. I can unroll it, snap it around my waist and get my daughter settled in it in less than a minute. When I'm in a hurry and not wanting to deal with a stroller or shopping cart, this Hip Hammock is a lifesaver. I plan to carry it around with us wherever we go, and anticipate using it at an upcoming wedding to help keep the 10-month old happy and somewhat quiet while sparing my back and left arm a bit.

As a side note, I have the deluxe version as opposed to the regular version. From what I've read online, the overall design and concept is the same, however, so what I've said about my deluxe version can apply to the regular version.
